Stanza 1.64.1

वृष्णे॒ शर्धा॑य॒ सुम॑खाय वे॒धसे॒ नोधः॑ सुवृ॒क्तिं प्र भ॑रा म॒रुद्भ्यः॑ | अ॒पो न धीरो॒ मन॑सा सु॒हस्त्यो॒ गिरः॒ सम॑ञ्जे वि॒दथे॑ष्वा॒भुवः॑ ||

vŕ̥ṣṇe śárdhāya súmakhāya vedháse nódhaḥ suvr̥ktím prá bharā marúdbhyaḥ apó ná dhī́ro mánasā suhástyo gíraḥ sám añje vidátheṣv ābhúvaḥ

Hey Nodhas, bring a pure offering to the strong, masterful, and wise Maruts! With skilled hands and a focused mind, I'm crafting these verses, much like a wise person prepares potent water for sacred rituals.

Stanza 1.64.2

ते ज॑ज्ञिरे दि॒व ऋ॒ष्वास॑ उ॒क्षणो॑ रु॒द्रस्य॒ मर्या॒ असु॑रा अरे॒पसः॑ | पा॒व॒कासः॒ शुच॑यः॒ सूर्या॑ इव॒ सत्वा॑नो॒ न द्र॒प्सिनो॑ घो॒रव॑र्पसः ||

té jajñire divá r̥ṣvā́sa ukṣáṇo rudrásya máryā ásurā arepásaḥ pāvakā́saḥ śúcayaḥ sū́ryā iva sátvāno ná drapsíno ghorávarpasaḥ

These beings, the strong bulls of the sky, Rudra's mighty youths, are born divine and pure. They shine like suns, untainted and bright, and like giants, they send down showers of rain.

Stanza 1.64.3

युवा॑नो रु॒द्रा अ॒जरा॑ अभो॒ग्घनो॑ वव॒क्षुरध्रि॑गावः॒ पर्व॑ता इव | दृ॒ळ्हा चि॒द्विश्वा॒ भुव॑नानि॒ पार्थि॑वा॒ प्र च्या॑वयन्ति दि॒व्यानि॑ म॒ज्मना॑ ||

yúvāno rudrā́ ajárā abhoggháno vavakṣúr ádhrigāvaḥ párvatā iva dr̥ḷhā́ cid víśvā bhúvanāni pā́rthivā prá cyāvayanti divyā́ni majmánā

These young Rudras, who never grow old and destroy evils, have grown powerful like mountains. With their mighty strength, they shake all beings, both on earth and in the heavens.

Stanza 1.64.4

चि॒त्रैर॒ञ्जिभि॒र्वपु॑षे॒ व्य॑ञ्जते॒ वक्षः॑सु रु॒क्माँ अधि॑ येतिरे शु॒भे | अंसे॑ष्वेषां॒ नि मि॑मृक्षुर्ऋ॒ष्टयः॑ सा॒कं ज॑ज्ञिरे स्व॒धया॑ दि॒वो नरः॑ ||

citraír añjíbhir vápuṣe vy àñjate vákṣassu rukmā́m̐ ádhi yetire śubhé áṁseṣv eṣāṁ ní mimr̥kṣur r̥ṣṭáyaḥ sākáṁ jajñire svadháyā divó náraḥ

They adorn themselves with sparkling ornaments and beautiful golden chains. On their shoulders, they carry spears that strike like lightning. They were born with their own powerful nature, men of the sky.

Stanza 1.64.5

ई॒शा॒न॒कृतो॒ धुन॑यो रि॒शाद॑सो॒ वाता॑न्वि॒द्युत॒स्तवि॑षीभिरक्रत | दु॒हन्त्यूध॑र्दि॒व्यानि॒ धूत॑यो॒ भूमिं॑ पिन्वन्ति॒ पय॑सा॒ परि॑ज्रयः ||

īśānakŕ̥to dhúnayo riśā́daso vā́tān vidyútas táviṣībhir akrata duhánty ū́dhar divyā́ni dhū́tayo bhū́mim pinvanti páyasā párijrayaḥ

These powerful beings, who bring strength and devour enemies, created the winds and lightning with their might. They draw milk from the heavenly clouds, nourishing the earth with rain.

Stanza 1.64.6

पिन्व॑न्त्य॒पो म॒रुतः॑ सु॒दान॑वः॒ पयो॑ घृ॒तव॑द्वि॒दथे॑ष्वा॒भुवः॑ | अत्यं॒ न मि॒हे वि न॑यन्ति वा॒जिन॒मुत्सं॑ दुहन्ति स्त॒नय॑न्त॒मक्षि॑तम् ||

pínvanty apó marútaḥ sudā́navaḥ páyo ghr̥távad vidátheṣv ābhúvaḥ átyaṁ ná mihé ví nayanti vājínam útsaṁ duhanti stanáyantam ákṣitam

The generous Maruts pour forth life-giving waters, rich like milk, that are potent in rituals. They lead forth the powerful steeds (clouds) to bring rain, milking the unending, thundering source.

Stanza 1.64.7

म॒हि॒षासो॑ मा॒यिन॑श्चि॒त्रभा॑नवो गि॒रयो॒ न स्वत॑वसो रघु॒ष्यदः॑ | मृ॒गा इ॑व ह॒स्तिनः॑ खादथा॒ वना॒ यदारु॑णीषु॒ तवि॑षी॒रयु॑ग्ध्वम् ||

mahiṣā́so māyínaś citrábhānavo giráyo ná svátavaso raghuṣyádaḥ mr̥gā́ iva hastínaḥ khādathā vánā yád ā́ruṇīṣu táviṣīr áyugdhvam

Mighty and full of wondrous light, they are strong like mountains and move swiftly. Like elephants devouring forests, they unleash their power when they become fierce amid the fiery elements.

Stanza 1.64.8

सिं॒हा इ॑व नानदति॒ प्रचे॑तसः पि॒शा इ॑व सु॒पिशो॑ वि॒श्ववे॑दसः | क्षपो॒ जिन्व॑न्तः॒ पृष॑तीभिर्ऋ॒ष्टिभिः॒ समित्स॒बाधः॒ शव॒साहि॑मन्यवः ||

siṁhā́ iva nānadati prácetasaḥ piśā́ iva supíśo viśvávedasaḥ kṣápo jínvantaḥ pŕ̥ṣatībhir r̥ṣṭíbhiḥ sám ít sabā́dhaḥ śávasā́himanyavaḥ

Wise and all-knowing, they roar like lions and are beautiful like gazelles. They stir up the night with their shining, spotted rain-clouds and lightning. They come together with powerful, fierce energy.

Stanza 1.64.9

रोद॑सी॒ आ व॑दता गणश्रियो॒ नृषा॑चः शूराः॒ शव॒साहि॑मन्यवः | आ व॒न्धुरे॑ष्व॒मति॒र्न द॑र्श॒ता वि॒द्युन्न त॑स्थौ मरुतो॒ रथे॑षु वः ||

ródasī ā́ vadatā gaṇaśriyo nŕ̥ṣācaḥ śūrāḥ śávasā́himanyavaḥ ā́ vandhúreṣv amátir ná darśatā́ vidyún ná tasthau maruto rátheṣu vaḥ

You powerful, company-marching heroes, with serpent-like wrath through strength, salute heaven and earth! O Maruts, lightning stands visible on your chariot seats, like pure light.

Stanza 1.64.10

वि॒श्ववे॑दसो र॒यिभिः॒ समो॑कसः॒ सम्मि॑श्लास॒स्तवि॑षीभिर्विर॒प्शिनः॑ | अस्ता॑र॒ इषुं॑ दधिरे॒ गभ॑स्त्योरन॒न्तशु॑ष्मा॒ वृष॑खादयो॒ नरः॑ ||

viśvávedaso rayíbhiḥ sámokasaḥ sámmiślāsas táviṣībhir virapśínaḥ ástāra íṣuṁ dadhire gábhastyor anantáśuṣmā vŕ̥ṣakhādayo náraḥ

All-knowing, dwelling with wealth, and mixed with great power, these brilliant ones hold arrows in their hands. They are archers with infinite strength and fierce power.

Stanza 1.64.11

हि॒र॒ण्यये॑भिः प॒विभिः॑ पयो॒वृध॒ उज्जि॑घ्नन्त आप॒थ्यो॒३॒॑ न पर्व॑तान् | म॒खा अ॒यासः॑ स्व॒सृतो॑ ध्रुव॒च्युतो॑ दुध्र॒कृतो॑ म॒रुतो॒ भ्राज॑दृष्टयः ||

hiraṇyáyebhiḥ pavíbhiḥ payovŕ̥dha újjighnanta āpathyò ná párvatān makhā́ ayā́saḥ svasŕ̥to dhruvacyúto dudhrakŕ̥to marúto bhrā́jadr̥ṣṭayaḥ

With golden-rimmed wheels, they increase the rain, driving the clouds like wanderers. The Maruts, who are self-moving and firm, shake mountains with their brilliant spears.

Stanza 1.64.12

घृषुं॑ पाव॒कं व॒निनं॒ विच॑र्षणिं रु॒द्रस्य॑ सू॒नुं ह॒वसा॑ गृणीमसि | र॒ज॒स्तुरं॑ त॒वसं॒ मारु॑तं ग॒णमृ॑जी॒षिणं॒ वृष॑णं सश्चत श्रि॒ये ||

ghŕ̥ṣum pāvakáṁ vanínaṁ vícarṣaṇiṁ rudrásya sūnúṁ havásā gr̥ṇīmasi rajastúraṁ tavásam mā́rutaṁ gaṇám r̥jīṣíṇaṁ vŕ̥ṣaṇaṁ saścata śriyé

We invoke with praise the son of Rudra: the energetic, pure, worshipful, and active one. O Maruts, may we associate with your strong, swift, and powerful company for prosperity.

Stanza 1.64.13

प्र नू स मर्तः॒ शव॑सा॒ जनाँ॒ अति॑ त॒स्थौ व॑ ऊ॒ती म॑रुतो॒ यमाव॑त | अर्व॑द्भि॒र्वाजं॑ भरते॒ धना॒ नृभि॑रा॒पृच्छ्यं॒ क्रतु॒मा क्षे॑ति॒ पुष्य॑ति ||

prá nū́ sá mártaḥ śávasā jánām̐ áti tasthaú va ūtī́ maruto yám ā́vata árvadbhir vā́jam bharate dhánā nŕ̥bhir āpŕ̥chyaṁ krátum ā́ kṣeti púṣyati

O Maruts, the mortal you protect rises above others in strength. With your help, he gains wealth through his horses and men, gaining wisdom and prospering.

Stanza 1.64.14

च॒र्कृत्यं॑ मरुतः पृ॒त्सु दु॒ष्टरं॑ द्यु॒मन्तं॒ शुष्मं॑ म॒घव॑त्सु धत्तन | ध॒न॒स्पृत॑मु॒क्थ्यं॑ वि॒श्वच॑र्षणिं तो॒कं पु॑ष्येम॒ तन॑यं श॒तं हिमाः॑ ||

carkŕ̥tyam marutaḥ pr̥tsú duṣṭáraṁ dyumántaṁ śúṣmam maghávatsu dhattana dhanaspŕ̥tam ukthyàṁ viśvácarṣaṇiṁ tokám puṣyema tánayaṁ śatáṁ hímāḥ

O Maruts, give us strength that is invincible in battle, brilliant, wealth-bringing, praiseworthy, and known everywhere. May we foster our children and descendants for a hundred winters.

Stanza 1.64.15

नू ष्ठि॒रं म॑रुतो वी॒रव॑न्तमृती॒षाहं॑ र॒यिम॒स्मासु॑ धत्त | स॒ह॒स्रिणं॑ श॒तिनं॑ शूशु॒वांसं॑ प्रा॒तर्म॒क्षू धि॒याव॑सुर्जगम्यात् ||

nū́ ṣṭhirám maruto vīrávantam r̥tīṣā́haṁ rayím asmā́su dhatta sahasríṇaṁ śatínaṁ śūśuvā́ṁsam prātár makṣū́ dhiyā́vasur jagamyāt

Will you, O Maruts, give us lasting, heroic, and triumphant wealth—a thousand times hundred, ever-increasing? May the wise one, rich in prayer, come to us soon.
