Stanza 1.62.1

प्र म॑न्महे शवसा॒नाय॑ शू॒षमा॑ङ्गू॒षं गिर्व॑णसे अङ्गिर॒स्वत् | सु॒वृ॒क्तिभिः॑ स्तुव॒त ऋ॑ग्मि॒यायार्चा॑मा॒र्कं नरे॒ विश्रु॑ताय ||

prá manmahe śavasānā́ya śūṣám āṅgūṣáṁ gírvaṇase aṅgirasvát suvr̥ktíbhi stuvatá r̥gmiyā́yā́rcāmārkáṁ náre víśrutāya

Let's begin by praising with strength, offering him our deepest admiration and hymns. We praise his greatness, his heroic qualities, and offer our song to this renowned hero, who deserves our praise.

Stanza 1.62.2

प्र वो॑ म॒हे महि॒ नमो॑ भरध्वमाङ्गू॒ष्यं॑ शवसा॒नाय॒ साम॑ | येना॑ नः॒ पूर्वे॑ पि॒तरः॑ पद॒ज्ञा अर्च॑न्तो॒ अङ्गि॑रसो॒ गा अवि॑न्दन् ||

prá vo mahé máhi námo bharadhvam āṅgūṣyàṁ śavasānā́ya sā́ma yénā naḥ pū́rve pitáraḥ padajñā́ árcanto áṅgiraso gā́ ávindan

Let's bring great honor and heartfelt praise to that supreme power! Our ancestors, the wise Angirases, through their devotion and sharp understanding, found the cows. Let's follow their example.

Stanza 1.62.3

इन्द्र॒स्याङ्गि॑रसां चे॒ष्टौ वि॒दत्स॒रमा॒ तन॑याय धा॒सिम् | बृह॒स्पति॑र्भि॒नदद्रिं॑ वि॒दद्गाः समु॒स्रिया॑भिर्वावशन्त॒ नरः॑ ||

índrasyā́ṅgirasāṁ ceṣṭaú vidát sarámā tánayāya dhāsím bŕ̥haspátir bhinád ádriṁ vidád gā́ḥ sám usríyābhir vāvaśanta náraḥ

When Indra and the Angirases wanted something, Sarama found food for her puppies. Brhaspati smashed the mountain and found the cows! The heroes cheered with joy!

Stanza 1.62.4

स सु॒ष्टुभा॒ स स्तु॒भा स॒प्त विप्रैः॑ स्व॒रेणाद्रिं॑ स्व॒र्यो॒३॒॑ नव॑ग्वैः | स॒र॒ण्युभिः॑ फलि॒गमि॑न्द्र शक्र व॒लं रवे॑ण दरयो॒ दश॑ग्वैः ||

sá suṣṭúbhā sá stubhā́ saptá vípraiḥ svaréṇā́driṁ svaryò návagvaiḥ saraṇyúbhiḥ phaligám indra śakra valáṁ ráveṇa darayo dáśagvaiḥ

With loud shouts and powerful calls, accompanied by the Navagvas and Dasagvas, O Indra, you mighty one, you shattered the obstruction of Vala using your sound!

Stanza 1.62.5

गृ॒णा॒नो अङ्गि॑रोभिर्दस्म॒ वि व॑रु॒षसा॒ सूर्ये॑ण॒ गोभि॒रन्धः॑ | वि भूम्या॑ अप्रथय इन्द्र॒ सानु॑ दि॒वो रज॒ उप॑रमस्तभायः ||

gr̥ṇānó áṅgirobhir dasma ví var uṣásā sū́ryeṇa góbhir ándhaḥ ví bhū́myā aprathaya indra sā́nu divó rája úparam astabhāyaḥ

Praised by the Angirases, you who destroy enemies, you banished the darkness with dawn and sun! You, Indra, spread out the earth's surfaces and secured the sky above us.

Stanza 1.62.6

तदु॒ प्रय॑क्षतममस्य॒ कर्म॑ द॒स्मस्य॒ चारु॑तममस्ति॒ दंसः॑ | उ॒प॒ह्व॒रे यदुप॑रा॒ अपि॑न्व॒न्मध्व॑र्णसो न॒द्य१॒॑श्चत॑स्रः ||

tád u práyakṣatamam asya kárma dasmásya cā́rutamam asti dáṁsaḥ upahvaré yád úparā ápinvan mádhvarṇaso nadyàś cátasraḥ

This is his greatest deed, the most beautiful act of the powerful one: where the earth meets the sky, he made four rivers flow with sweet, flowing water.

Stanza 1.62.7

द्वि॒ता वि व॑व्रे स॒नजा॒ सनी॑ळे अ॒यास्यः॒ स्तव॑मानेभिर॒र्कैः | भगो॒ न मेने॑ पर॒मे व्यो॑म॒न्नधा॑रय॒द्रोद॑सी सु॒दंसाः॑ ||

dvitā́ ví vavre sanájā sánīḷe ayā́sya stávamānebhir arkaíḥ bhágo ná méne paramé vyòmann ádhārayad ródasī sudáṁsāḥ

Unwavering, with hymns of praise, you separated the ancient dual entities. In the highest sky, you held together the earth and heavens with your powerful actions.

Stanza 1.62.8

स॒नाद्दिवं॒ परि॒ भूमा॒ विरू॑पे पुन॒र्भुवा॑ युव॒ती स्वेभि॒रेवैः॑ | कृ॒ष्णेभि॑र॒क्तोषा रुश॑द्भि॒र्वपु॑र्भि॒रा च॑रतो अ॒न्यान्या॑ ||

sanā́d dívam pári bhū́mā vírūpe punarbhúvā yuvatī́ svébhir évaiḥ kr̥ṣṇébhir aktóṣā́ rúśadbhir vápurbhir ā́ carato anyā́nyā

The two eternally moving, differently colored figures, always young, travel around heaven and earth. Night, covered in dark beauty, and Dawn, shining with bright colors, alternate.

Stanza 1.62.9

सने॑मि स॒ख्यं स्व॑प॒स्यमा॑नः सू॒नुर्दा॑धार॒ शव॑सा सु॒दंसाः॑ | आ॒मासु॑ चिद्दधिषे प॒क्वम॒न्तः पयः॑ कृ॒ष्णासु॒ रुश॒द्रोहि॑णीषु ||

sánemi sakhyáṁ svapasyámānaḥ sūnúr dādhāra śávasā sudáṁsāḥ āmā́su cid dadhiṣe pakvám antáḥ páyaḥ kr̥ṣṇā́su rúśad róhiṇīṣu

Continuously working, you maintain your friendship with great strength. You, O Indra, can draw out the ripe milk from even the raw, dark, or reddish cows, holding it within.

Stanza 1.62.10

स॒नात्सनी॑ळा अ॒वनी॑रवा॒ता व्र॒ता र॑क्षन्ते अ॒मृताः॒ सहो॑भिः | पु॒रू स॒हस्रा॒ जन॑यो॒ न पत्नी॑र्दुव॒स्यन्ति॒ स्वसा॑रो॒ अह्र॑याणम् ||

sanā́t sánīḷā avánīr avātā́ vratā́ rakṣante amŕ̥tāḥ sáhobhiḥ purū́ sahásrā jánayo ná pátnīr duvasyánti svásāro áhrayāṇam

Their ancient paths remain connected and undamaged. The immortal ones protect the divine laws with their strength. Countless beings serve the powerful lord like devoted attendants.

Stanza 1.62.11

स॒ना॒युवो॒ नम॑सा॒ नव्यो॑ अ॒र्कैर्व॑सू॒यवो॑ म॒तयो॑ दस्म दद्रुः | पतिं॒ न पत्नी॑रुश॒तीरु॒शन्तं॑ स्पृ॒शन्ति॑ त्वा शवसावन्मनी॒षाः ||

sanāyúvo námasā návyo arkaír vasūyávo matáyo dasma dadruḥ pátiṁ ná pátnīr uśatī́r uśántaṁ spr̥śánti tvā śavasāvan manīṣā́ḥ

Ancient thoughts and new praises, seeking blessings, rush towards you with devotion. Like eager wives to their beloved husband, our thoughts and hymns reach you, O Mighty Lord.

Stanza 1.62.12

स॒नादे॒व तव॒ रायो॒ गभ॑स्तौ॒ न क्षीय॑न्ते॒ नोप॑ दस्यन्ति दस्म | द्यु॒माँ अ॑सि॒ क्रतु॑माँ इन्द्र॒ धीरः॒ शिक्षा॑ शचीव॒स्तव॑ नः॒ शची॑भिः ||

sanā́d evá táva rā́yo gábhastau ná kṣī́yante nópa dasyanti dasma dyumā́m̐ asi krátumām̐ indra dhī́raḥ śíkṣā śacīvas táva naḥ śácībhiḥ

Your divine wealth, O wise Indra, has never faded since ancient times. You are brilliant and wise. Strengthen us with your might!

Stanza 1.62.13

स॒ना॒य॒ते गोत॑म इन्द्र॒ नव्य॒मत॑क्ष॒द्ब्रह्म॑ हरि॒योज॑नाय | सु॒नी॒थाय॑ नः शवसान नो॒धाः प्रा॒तर्म॒क्षू धि॒याव॑सुर्जगम्यात् ||

sanāyaté gótama indra návyam átakṣad bráhma hariyójanāya sunīthā́ya naḥ śavasāna nodhā́ḥ prātár makṣū́ dhiyā́vasur jagamyāt

O Indra, for you, the eternal and well-guided one, who harnesses the tawny horses, Gotama's son Nodhas has fashioned this new, powerful prayer. May he, who possesses wisdom, come to us swiftly and early.
