    Stanza 1.55.1

    दि॒वश्चि॑दस्य वरि॒मा वि प॑प्रथ॒ इन्द्रं॒ न म॒ह्ना पृ॑थि॒वी च॒न प्रति॑ | भी॒मस्तुवि॑ष्माञ्चर्ष॒णिभ्य॑ आत॒पः शिशी॑ते॒ वज्रं॒ तेज॑से॒ न वंस॑गः ||

    diváś cid asya varimā́ ví papratha índraṁ ná mahnā́ pr̥thivī́ caná práti bhīmás túviṣmāñ carṣaṇíbhya ātapáḥ śíśīte vájraṁ téjase ná váṁsagaḥ

    Even the vast sky and earth can't compare to Indra's greatness. He's a terrifying, powerful presence for people, sharpening his thunderbolt for maximum impact, like a bull preparing itself.

    Stanza 1.55.2

    सो अ॑र्ण॒वो न न॒द्यः॑ समु॒द्रियः॒ प्रति॑ गृभ्णाति॒ विश्रि॑ता॒ वरी॑मभिः | इन्द्रः॒ सोम॑स्य पी॒तये॑ वृषायते स॒नात्स यु॒ध्म ओज॑सा पनस्यते ||

    só arṇavó ná nadyàḥ samudríyaḥ práti gr̥bhṇāti víśritā várīmabhiḥ índraḥ sómasya pītáye vr̥ṣāyate sanā́t sá yudhmá ójasā panasyate

    Indra is like a vast ocean, receiving the flowing rivers. He's getting ready to drink the Soma, acting like a bull, and his mighty strength, known from long ago, is praised.

    Stanza 1.55.3

    त्वं तमि॑न्द्र॒ पर्व॑तं॒ न भोज॑से म॒हो नृ॒म्णस्य॒ धर्म॑णामिरज्यसि | प्र वी॒र्ये॑ण दे॒वताति॑ चेकिते॒ विश्व॑स्मा उ॒ग्रः कर्म॑णे पु॒रोहि॑तः ||

    tváṁ tám indra párvataṁ ná bhójase mahó nr̥mṇásya dhármaṇām irajyasi prá vīryèṇa devátā́ti cekite víśvasmā ugráḥ kármaṇe puróhitaḥ

    Indra, you rule over all sorts of immense strength and power, making even great mountains seem to bow! You're the leader among gods, the strong one at the forefront of every important task.

    Stanza 1.55.4

    स इद्वने॑ नम॒स्युभि॑र्वचस्यते॒ चारु॒ जने॑षु प्रब्रुवा॒ण इ॑न्द्रि॒यम् | वृषा॒ छन्दु॑र्भवति हर्य॒तो वृषा॒ क्षेमे॑ण॒ धेनां॑ म॒घवा॒ यदिन्व॑ति ||

    sá íd váne namasyúbhir vacasyate cā́ru jáneṣu prabruvāṇá indriyám vŕ̥ṣā chándur bhavati haryató vŕ̥ṣā kṣémeṇa dhénām maghávā yád ínvati

    In the forest, people praise him, and he proudly proclaims his magnificent power to everyone. He's like a strong, sought-after bull. When the generous Indra speaks out, it brings well-being.

    Stanza 1.55.5

    स इन्म॒हानि॑ समि॒थानि॑ म॒ज्मना॑ कृ॒णोति॑ यु॒ध्म ओज॑सा॒ जने॑भ्यः | अधा॑ च॒न श्रद्द॑धति॒ त्विषी॑मत॒ इन्द्रा॑य॒ वज्रं॑ नि॒घनि॑घ्नते व॒धम् ||

    sá ín mahā́ni samithā́ni majmánā kr̥ṇóti yudhmá ójasā jánebhyaḥ ádhā caná śrád dadhati tvíṣīmata índrāya vájraṁ nighánighnate vadhám

    Indra, the warrior, uses his powerful energy and might to create big conflicts for people. Despite his actions, people trust him. They believe in the shining Indra, particularly when he's ready to strike with his thunderbolt.

    Stanza 1.55.6

    स हि श्र॑व॒स्युः सद॑नानि कृ॒त्रिमा॑ क्ष्म॒या वृ॑धा॒न ओज॑सा विना॒शय॑न् | ज्योतीं॑षि कृ॒ण्वन्न॑वृ॒काणि॒ यज्य॒वेऽव॑ सु॒क्रतुः॒ सर्त॒वा अ॒पः सृ॑जत् ||

    sá hí śravasyúḥ sádanāni kr̥trímā kṣmayā́ vr̥dhāná ójasā vināśáyan jyótīṁṣi kr̥ṇvánn avr̥kā́ṇi yájyavé 'va sukrátuḥ sártavā́ apáḥ sr̥jat

    Indra, who desires fame and grows stronger on earth, uses his immense power to destroy man-made structures. He makes the stars shine safely and, with his great wisdom, releases the waters for those who worship him.

    Stanza 1.55.7

    दा॒नाय॒ मनः॑ सोमपावन्नस्तु ते॒ऽर्वाञ्चा॒ हरी॑ वन्दनश्रु॒दा कृ॑धि | यमि॑ष्ठासः॒ सार॑थयो॒ य इ॑न्द्र ते॒ न त्वा॒ केता॒ आ द॑भ्नुवन्ति॒ भूर्ण॑यः ||

    dānā́ya mánaḥ somapāvann astu te 'rvā́ñcā hárī vandanaśrud ā́ kr̥dhi yámiṣṭhāsaḥ sā́rathayo yá indra te ná tvā kétā ā́ dabhnuvanti bhū́rṇayaḥ

    Indra, you who drink Soma, please be generous! Bring your swift horses closer, guided by skilled drivers. Those capable charioteers of yours, Indra, ensure you're not misled, and you hear our praise.

    Stanza 1.55.8

    अप्र॑क्षितं॒ वसु॑ बिभर्षि॒ हस्त॑यो॒रषा॑ळ्हं॒ सह॑स्त॒न्वि॑ श्रु॒तो द॑धे | आवृ॑तासोऽव॒तासो॒ न क॒र्तृभि॑स्त॒नूषु॑ ते॒ क्रत॑व इन्द्र॒ भूर॑यः ||

    áprakṣitaṁ vásu bibharṣi hástayor áṣāḷhaṁ sáhas tanvaì śrutó dadhe ā́vr̥tāso 'vatā́so ná kartŕ̥bhis tanū́ṣu te krátava indra bhū́rayaḥ

    Indra, you hold endless wealth in your hands and unconquerable strength in your very being. Your numerous powers are within you, abundant and potent, and are not fooled by those who try to guide you.
