Stanza 1.53.1

न्यू॒३॒॑ षु वाचं॒ प्र म॒हे भ॑रामहे॒ गिर॒ इन्द्रा॑य॒ सद॑ने वि॒वस्व॑तः | नू चि॒द्धि रत्नं॑ सस॒तामि॒वावि॑द॒न्न दु॑ष्टु॒तिर्द्र॑विणो॒देषु॑ शस्यते ||

ny ūā̀ ṣú vā́cam prá mahé bharāmahe gíra índrāya sádane vivásvataḥ nū́ cid dhí rátnaṁ sasatā́m ivā́vidan ná duṣṭutír draviṇodéṣu śasyate

We're bringing our best words and songs to the great Indra, right here in Vivasvan's place. Because honestly, he hasn't found any real value in those who seem to be just coasting along. True appreciation and generosity are what get noticed and rewarded by the wealth-giver.

Stanza 1.53.2

दु॒रो अश्व॑स्य दु॒र इ॑न्द्र॒ गोर॑सि दु॒रो यव॑स्य॒ वसु॑न इ॒नस्पतिः॑ | शि॒क्षा॒न॒रः प्र॒दिवो॒ अका॑मकर्शनः॒ सखा॒ सखि॑भ्य॒स्तमि॒दं गृ॑णीमसि ||

duró áśvasya durá indra gór asi duró yávasya vásuna inás pátiḥ śikṣānaráḥ pradívo ákāmakarśanaḥ sákhā sákhibhyas tám idáṁ gr̥ṇīmasi

Indra, you're the giver of horses, cows, and barley – the true Lord of wealth! You've been our helper and protector from the very beginning, and you never let us down. We, your friends, are singing this praise to you, our loyal companion.

Stanza 1.53.3

शची॑व इन्द्र पुरुकृद्द्युमत्तम॒ तवेदि॒दम॒भित॑श्चेकिते॒ वसु॑ | अतः॑ सं॒गृभ्या॑भिभूत॒ आ भ॑र॒ मा त्वा॑य॒तो ज॑रि॒तुः काम॑मूनयीः ||

śácīva indra purukr̥d dyumattama távéd idám abhítaś cekite vásu átaḥ saṁgŕ̥bhyābhibhūta ā́ bhara mā́ tvāyató jaritúḥ kā́mam ūnayīḥ

Indra, you are powerful, incredibly wealthy, and renowned! All these riches are clearly yours. So, O mighty conqueror, please gather them up and bring them to us. Don't ever let down the person who sings your praises and desires your favor.

Stanza 1.53.4

ए॒भिर्द्युभिः॑ सु॒मना॑ ए॒भिरिन्दु॑भिर्निरुन्धा॒नो अम॑तिं॒ गोभि॑र॒श्विना॑ | इन्द्रे॑ण॒ दस्युं॑ द॒रय॑न्त॒ इन्दु॑भिर्यु॒तद्वे॑षसः॒ समि॒षा र॑भेमहि ||

ebhír dyúbhiḥ sumánā ebhír índubhir nirundhānó ámatiṁ góbhir aśvínā índreṇa dásyuṁ daráyanta índubhir yutádveṣasaḥ sám iṣā́ rabhemahi

With these bright flames and Soma juices, Indra, please be with us! Help us overcome our poverty with cattle and horses. As you defeat the enemies with these offerings, may we, freed from their hostility, engage with you and receive abundance.

Stanza 1.53.5

समि॑न्द्र रा॒या समि॒षा र॑भेमहि॒ सं वाजे॑भिः पुरुश्च॒न्द्रैर॒भिद्यु॑भिः | सं दे॒व्या प्रम॑त्या वी॒रशु॑ष्मया॒ गोअ॑ग्र॒याश्वा॑वत्या रभेमहि ||

sám indra rāyā́ sám iṣā́ rabhemahi sáṁ vā́jebhiḥ puruścandraír abhídyubhiḥ sáṁ devyā́ prámatyā vīráśuṣmayā góagrayā́śvāvatyā rabhemahi

Indra, may we join forces with you! Let us embrace wealth, strength, and brilliant triumphs, along with divine grace. We want to be united with you, empowered by heroes, with abundant cows and horses.

Stanza 1.53.6

ते त्वा॒ मदा॑ अमद॒न्तानि॒ वृष्ण्या॒ ते सोमा॑सो वृत्र॒हत्ये॑षु सत्पते | यत्का॒रवे॒ दश॑ वृ॒त्राण्य॑प्र॒ति ब॒र्हिष्म॑ते॒ नि स॒हस्रा॑णि ब॒र्हयः॑ ||

té tvā mádā amadan tā́ni vŕ̥ṣṇyā té sómāso vr̥trahátyeṣu satpate yát kāráve dáśa vr̥trā́ṇy apratí barhíṣmate ní sahásrāṇi barháyaḥ

These energizing Soma drinks and powerful offerings pleased you, Indra, especially during your battles! Remember when you, the Lord of stability, destroyed ten thousand Vritras for the worshipper with the sacred grass? You did it with unstoppable might!

Stanza 1.53.7

यु॒धा युध॒मुप॒ घेदे॑षि धृष्णु॒या पु॒रा पुरं॒ समि॒दं हं॒स्योज॑सा | नम्या॒ यदि॑न्द्र॒ सख्या॑ परा॒वति॑ निब॒र्हयो॒ नमु॑चिं॒ नाम॑ मा॒यिन॑म् ||

yudhā́ yúdham úpa ghéd eṣi dhr̥ṣṇuyā́ purā́ púraṁ sám idáṁ haṁsy ójasā námyā yád indra sákhyā parāváti nibarháyo námuciṁ nā́ma māyínam

You fearlessly charge from battle to battle, Indra, destroying forts with your immense strength! With your friend by your side, you even vanquished the tricky Namuci from afar, proving your power against illusion and might.

Stanza 1.53.8

त्वं कर॑ञ्जमु॒त प॒र्णयं॑ वधी॒स्तेजि॑ष्ठयातिथि॒ग्वस्य॑ वर्त॒नी | त्वं श॒ता वङ्गृ॑दस्याभिन॒त्पुरो॑ऽनानु॒दः परि॑षूता ऋ॒जिश्व॑ना ||

tváṁ kárañjam utá parṇáyaṁ vadhīs téjiṣṭhayātithigvásya vartanī́ tváṁ śatā́ váṅgr̥dasyābhinat púro 'nānudáḥ páriṣūtā r̥jíśvanā

You, Indra, struck down Karanja and Parṇaya with your sharpest weapon! You destroyed the hundred forts of Vangrida, aided by the swift chariot of Rijiśvan, leaving them unyielding and unprotected.

Stanza 1.53.9

त्वमे॒ताञ्ज॑न॒राज्ञो॒ द्विर्दशा॑ब॒न्धुना॑ सु॒श्रव॑सोपज॒ग्मुषः॑ | ष॒ष्टिं स॒हस्रा॑ नव॒तिं नव॑ श्रु॒तो नि च॒क्रेण॒ रथ्या॑ दु॒ष्पदा॑वृणक् ||

tvám etā́ñ janarā́jño dvír dáśābandhúnā suśrávasopajagmúṣaḥ ṣaṣṭíṁ sahásrā navatíṁ náva śrutó ní cakréṇa ráthyā duṣpádāvr̥ṇak

Indra, you, with your mighty chariot wheel, defeated twenty kings and their countless followers who came against the friendless Sushravas. You swiftly crushed them all!

Stanza 1.53.10

त्वमा॑विथ सु॒श्रव॑सं॒ तवो॒तिभि॒स्तव॒ त्राम॑भिरिन्द्र॒ तूर्व॑याणम् | त्वम॑स्मै॒ कुत्स॑मतिथि॒ग्वमा॒युं म॒हे राज्ञे॒ यूने॑ अरन्धनायः ||

tvám āvitha suśrávasaṁ távotíbhis táva trā́mabhir indra tū́rvayāṇam tvám asmai kútsam atithigvám āyúm mahé rā́jñe yū́ne arandhanāyaḥ

Indra, you protected Sushravas with your help and Tûrvayâṇa with your aid. You also subdued Kutsa, Atithigva, and Ayu, making them submit to the great and young king.

Stanza 1.53.11

य उ॒दृची॑न्द्र दे॒वगो॑पाः॒ सखा॑यस्ते शि॒वत॑मा॒ असा॑म | त्वां स्तो॑षाम॒ त्वया॑ सु॒वीरा॒ द्राघी॑य॒ आयुः॑ प्रत॒रं दधा॑नाः ||

yá udŕ̥cīndra devágopāḥ sákhāyas te śivátamā ásāma tvā́ṁ stoṣāma tváyā suvī́rā drā́ghīya ā́yuḥ prataráṁ dádhānāḥ

Indra, may we, protected by the gods, become your most fortunate friends! May we praise you and, with your help, lead long lives full of heroes and well-being.
