    Stanza 1.48.1

    स॒ह वा॒मेन॑ न उषो॒ व्यु॑च्छा दुहितर्दिवः | स॒ह द्यु॒म्नेन॑ बृह॒ता वि॑भावरि रा॒या दे॑वि॒ दास्व॑ती ||

    sahá vāména na uṣo vy ùchā duhitar divaḥ sahá dyumnéna br̥hatā́ vibhāvari rāyā́ devi dā́svatī

    O Dawn, daughter of the sky, shine upon us with wealth! Shine with great glory, O Goddess, so rich and radiant! Bring us your gifts!

    Stanza 1.48.2

    अश्वा॑वती॒र्गोम॑तीर्विश्वसु॒विदो॒ भूरि॑ च्यवन्त॒ वस्त॑वे | उदी॑रय॒ प्रति॑ मा सू॒नृता॑ उष॒श्चोद॒ राधो॑ म॒घोना॑म् ||

    áśvāvatīr gómatīr viśvasuvído bhū́ri cyavanta vástave úd īraya práti mā sūnŕ̥tā uṣaś códa rā́dho maghónām

    O Dawn, bringing cattle and horses, and all kinds of wealth, speed us forward! Wake up for us joyous sounds and the abundance of the mighty!

    Stanza 1.48.3

    उ॒वासो॒षा उ॒च्छाच्च॒ नु दे॒वी जी॒रा रथा॑नाम् | ये अ॑स्या आ॒चर॑णेषु दध्रि॒रे स॑मु॒द्रे न श्र॑व॒स्यवः॑ ||

    uvā́soṣā́ uchā́c ca nú devī́ jīrā́ ráthānām yé asyā ācáraṇeṣu dadhriré samudré ná śravasyávaḥ

    Ushas has dawned, and now the Goddess, the swift mover of chariots, arrives! Those who follow her, eager for fame, are like people drawn to the sea.

    Stanza 1.48.4

    उषो॒ ये ते॒ प्र यामे॑षु यु॒ञ्जते॒ मनो॑ दा॒नाय॑ सू॒रयः॑ | अत्राह॒ तत्कण्व॑ एषां॒ कण्व॑तमो॒ नाम॑ गृणाति नृ॒णाम् ||

    úṣo yé te prá yā́meṣu yuñjáte máno dānā́ya sūráyaḥ átrā́ha tát káṇva eṣāṁ káṇvatamo nā́ma gr̥ṇāti nr̥ṇā́m

    O Ushas, the wise who focus their minds on giving, as you approach! Here Kanva, the most renowned of his line, sings their praises among men.

    Stanza 1.48.5

    आ घा॒ योषे॑व सू॒नर्यु॒षा या॑ति प्रभुञ्ज॒ती | ज॒रय॑न्ती॒ वृज॑नं प॒द्वदी॑यत॒ उत्पा॑तयति प॒क्षिणः॑ ||

    ā́ ghā yóṣeva sūnáry uṣā́ yāti prabhuñjatī́ jaráyantī vŕ̥janam padvád īyata út pātayati pakṣíṇaḥ

    Like a nurturing woman, Ushas comes, taking care of everything. She awakens the world, sets all creatures with feet in motion, and makes the birds fly up!

    Stanza 1.48.6

    वि या सृ॒जति॒ सम॑नं॒ व्य१॒॑र्थिनः॑ प॒दं न वे॒त्योद॑ती | वयो॒ नकि॑ष्टे पप्ति॒वांस॑ आसते॒ व्यु॑ष्टौ वाजिनीवति ||

    ví yā́ sr̥játi sámanaṁ vy àrthínaḥ padáṁ ná vety ódatī váyo nákiṣ ṭe paptivā́ṁsa āsate vyùṣṭau vājinīvati

    She sends forth those who are busy, each to their goal. She doesn't delay, and knows no pause. O wealthy one, after your dawn, flying things don't rest!

    Stanza 1.48.7

    ए॒षायु॑क्त परा॒वतः॒ सूर्य॑स्यो॒दय॑ना॒दधि॑ | श॒तं रथे॑भिः सु॒भगो॒षा इ॒यं वि या॑त्य॒भि मानु॑षान् ||

    eṣā́yukta parāvátaḥ sū́ryasyodáyanād ádhi śatáṁ ráthebhiḥ subhágoṣā́ iyáṁ ví yāty abhí mā́nuṣān

    This Dawn, from far beyond the sun's rising, has harnessed her horses! Riding in a hundred chariots, the fortunate Ushas comes towards people.

    Stanza 1.48.8

    विश्व॑मस्या नानाम॒ चक्ष॑से॒ जग॒ज्ज्योति॑ष्कृणोति सू॒नरी॑ | अप॒ द्वेषो॑ म॒घोनी॑ दुहि॒ता दि॒व उ॒षा उ॑च्छ॒दप॒ स्रिधः॑ ||

    víśvam asyā nānāma cákṣase jágaj jyótiṣ kr̥ṇoti sūnárī ápa dvéṣo maghónī duhitā́ divá uṣā́ uchad ápa srídhaḥ

    The entire world bows down to her brilliant appearance! She creates light for the universe. Ushas, the opulent daughter of the sky, shines away enemies and hatred.

    Stanza 1.48.9

    उष॒ आ भा॑हि भा॒नुना॑ च॒न्द्रेण॑ दुहितर्दिवः | आ॒वह॑न्ती॒ भूर्य॒स्मभ्यं॒ सौभ॑गं व्यु॒च्छन्ती॒ दिवि॑ष्टिषु ||

    úṣa ā́ bhāhi bhānúnā candréṇa duhitar divaḥ āváhantī bhū́ry asmábhyaṁ saúbhagaṁ vyuchántī díviṣṭiṣu

    O Ushas, shine on us with your brilliant light! O daughter of the sky, bring us abundant prosperity! Shine upon our rituals with your grace!

    Stanza 1.48.10

    विश्व॑स्य॒ हि प्राण॑नं॒ जीव॑नं॒ त्वे वि यदु॒च्छसि॑ सूनरि | सा नो॒ रथे॑न बृह॒ता वि॑भावरि श्रु॒धि चि॑त्रामघे॒ हव॑म् ||

    víśvasya hí prā́ṇanaṁ jī́vanaṁ tvé ví yád uchási sūnari sā́ no ráthena br̥hatā́ vibhāvari śrudhí citrāmaghe hávam

    For in you is the breath and life of all that lives, O Ushas, when you shine forth! Carry us in your great chariot, O radiant one, hear our call, O wondrously wealthy one!

    Stanza 1.48.11

    उषो॒ वाजं॒ हि वंस्व॒ यश्चि॒त्रो मानु॑षे॒ जने॑ | तेना व॑ह सु॒कृतो॑ अध्व॒राँ उप॒ ये त्वा॑ गृ॒णन्ति॒ वह्न॑यः ||

    úṣo vā́jaṁ hí váṁsva yáś citró mā́nuṣe jáne ténā́ vaha sukŕ̥to adhvarā́m̐ úpa yé tvā gr̥ṇánti váhnayaḥ

    O Ushas, win for yourself the wonderful strength that exists among people! With that strength, bring the devout performers of rituals to us!

    Stanza 1.48.12

    विश्वा॑न्दे॒वाँ आ व॑ह॒ सोम॑पीतये॒ऽन्तरि॑क्षादुष॒स्त्वम् | सास्मासु॑ धा॒ गोम॒दश्वा॑वदु॒क्थ्य१॒॑मुषो॒ वाजं॑ सु॒वीर्य॑म् ||

    víśvān devā́m̐ ā́ vaha sómapītaye 'ntárikṣād uṣas tvám sā́smā́su dhā gómad áśvāvad ukthyàm úṣo vā́jaṁ suvī́ryam

    O Ushas, bring all the gods from the sky for the Soma feast! Grant us cattle, horses, worthy praise, and heroic strength!

    Stanza 1.48.13

    यस्या॒ रुश॑न्तो अ॒र्चयः॒ प्रति॑ भ॒द्रा अदृ॑क्षत | सा नो॑ र॒यिं वि॒श्ववा॑रं सु॒पेश॑समु॒षा द॑दातु॒ सुग्म्य॑म् ||

    yásyā rúśanto arcáyaḥ práti bhadrā́ ádr̥kṣata sā́ no rayíṁ viśvávāraṁ supéśasam uṣā́ dadātu súgmyam

    May Ushas, whose bright, auspicious rays are seen, grant us abundant wealth, beautiful in form and easy to obtain!

    Stanza 1.48.14

    ये चि॒द्धि त्वामृष॑यः॒ पूर्व॑ ऊ॒तये॑ जुहू॒रेऽव॑से महि | सा नः॒ स्तोमाँ॑ अ॒भि गृ॑णीहि॒ राध॒सोषः॑ शु॒क्रेण॑ शो॒चिषा॑ ||

    yé cid dhí tvā́m ŕ̥ṣayaḥ pū́rva ūtáye juhūré 'vase mahi sā́ na stómām̐ abhí gr̥ṇīhi rā́dhasóṣaḥ śukréṇa śocíṣā

    O Mighty Dawn, whom the ancient sages invoked for help! Respond favorably to our praises with bounty and pure, shining light!

    Stanza 1.48.15

    उषो॒ यद॒द्य भा॒नुना॒ वि द्वारा॑वृ॒णवो॑ दि॒वः | प्र नो॑ यच्छतादवृ॒कं पृ॒थु च्छ॒र्दिः प्र दे॑वि॒ गोम॑ती॒रिषः॑ ||

    úṣo yád adyá bhānúnā ví dvā́rāv r̥ṇávo diváḥ prá no yachatād avr̥kám pr̥thú chardíḥ prá devi gómatīr íṣaḥ

    O Ushas, as you open the doors of the sky with your light today, grant us a wide shelter free from foes! O Goddess, give us abundant food!

    Stanza 1.48.16

    सं नो॑ रा॒या बृ॑ह॒ता वि॒श्वपे॑शसा मिमि॒क्ष्वा समिळा॑भि॒रा | सं द्यु॒म्नेन॑ विश्व॒तुरो॑षो महि॒ सं वाजै॑र्वाजिनीवति ||

    sáṁ no rāyā́ br̥hatā́ viśvápeśasā mimikṣvā́ sám íḷābhir ā́ sáṁ dyumnéna viśvatúroṣo mahi sáṁ vā́jair vājinīvati

    O Ushas, bring us together with great and diverse wealth, with nourishing food, and with all-conquering strength! O wealthy one, bring us abundance!
