अग्ने॒ नय॑ सु॒पथा॑ रा॒ये अ॒स्मान्विश्वा॑नि देव व॒युना॑नि वि॒द्वान् | यु॒यो॒ध्य१॒॑स्मज्जु॑हुरा॒णमेनो॒ भूयि॑ष्ठां ते॒ नम॑उक्तिं विधेम ||

Agni, our guiding fire, please lead us on a good path to prosperity. You know all the ways of the world, so help us avoid the wrong turns and mistakes that lead us astray. We'll offer you our fullest respect and devotion.

Agni, please keep all sickness far from us! Those who don't rely on you will be plagued. Bring back blessings and prosperity to us, O god, along with all the immortals, so our lives can be good again.

Agni, please don't hand us over to trouble! Don't let us be victims of wicked enemies, deceivers, or bad luck. And don't let us be harmed by those who bite or by any other hurtful thing, O mighty one.

Agni, you know and see everyone clearly! You come to people eagerly as the day begins. And when the day ends, you become gentle and receptive, ready to be honored by those who seek you.
This verse describes Agni's discerning nature and his active presence in human life. Agni, knowing and distinguishing between different people (perhaps pious vs. impious, or Aryans vs. Dasyus), approaches them with enthusiasm during the day. The verse also highlights that Agni becomes manageable and receptive to human guidance in the evening, ready to be adorned and praised by those who desire him.
