prá távyasīṁ návyasīṁ dhītím agnáye vācó matíṁ sáhasaḥ sūnáve bhare apā́ṁ nápād yó vásubhiḥ sahá priyó hótā pr̥thivyā́ṁ ny ásīdad r̥tvíyaḥ

I'm bringing Agni a stronger, brand-new hymn, my heartfelt words and song for the mighty "Son of Strength." He's the "Child of the Waters," who, along with the Vasus, has settled on Earth as the beloved priest, ready to serve at the appointed time.

Stanza 1.143.2

sá jā́yamānaḥ paramé vyòmany āvír agnír abhavan mātaríśvane asyá krátvā samidhānásya majmánā prá dyā́vā śocíḥ pr̥thivī́ arocayat

The moment Agni was born in the highest sky, he appeared to Matarishvan. When he was lit up, his power and majesty made the heavens and earth brightly shine.

Stanza 1.143.3

asyá tveṣā́ ajárā asyá bhānávaḥ susaṁdŕ̥śaḥ suprátīkasya sudyútaḥ bhā́tvakṣaso áty aktúr ná síndhavo 'gné rejante ásasanto ajárāḥ

His brilliant, never-aging flames and beautiful beams shine. Agni, with his lovely face and splendor, has rays that gleam like rivers through the night, always active and eternally youthful.

Stanza 1.143.4

Let's praise Agni, the all-knowing and all-possessing, whom the Bhrigus brought to the center of the earth with their might. We should stir him with our songs in his own home, as he rules alone like Varuna, the lord of riches.

Stanza 1.143.5

Agni, unstoppable like the Maruts' roar, a launched army, or a thunderbolt, devours with sharp jaws. He crushes forests like a warrior fells his foes.

Stanza 1.143.6

Will Agni enjoy our praise? Will he, the Vasu, grant our wish with riches? Will the inspirer drive our thoughts to success? With this hymn, I praise him whose face is bright.

Stanza 1.143.7

May he who kindles Agni, with his ghee-gleaming face and as the promoter of order, win him as a friend. May shining Agni, visible in our assemblies, lift up our bright prayers.

áprayuchann áprayuchadbhir agne śivébhir naḥ pāyúbhiḥ pāhi śagmaíḥ ádabdhebhir ádr̥pitebhir iṣṭé 'nimiṣadbhiḥ pári pāhi no jā́ḥ

O Agni, protect us with your ever-watchful, kind, and mighty guardians! Keep us safe with protectors who never fail, are never deceived, and never sleep. O Helper, guard our people!
