I believe Agni is the generous priest, the wealth-giver, son of strength, the knower of all beings, the enlightened one, like a wise poet. He, the god of glorious rites, with his bright form reaching upwards towards the gods, desires the shining ghee and clarified butter that is offered.

We, the sacrificers, call you, the best among sacrificers, the chief of the Angiras, O wise one, with our prayers and praises. O brilliant one, you who are like the sky, encompassing all, O priest of humankind, with your fiery brilliance and strength, may these people, may all people, support you for our benefit.

Indeed, shining with mighty strength, he becomes the vanquisher of deceitful foes, like an axe that conquers deceit. At his approach, even strong things melt away, and stable things yield like trees. He conquers and stands firm, unyielding; like an expert archer, he does not retreat.

Even firm things give way to him, as is known. With the hottest fire-sticks, he powerfully provides for his own welfare. He who penetrates many things, shaping them like wood with his brilliance, destroys even solid food with his might—he destroys even what is firm with his might.

Let us place his power among us; he is more visible at night than by day, and stronger than by day for the ceaseless worshipper. His life is a firm refuge, like a father's to his son. The eternal fires accept what is offered and what is not offered; they accept it as sustenance.

He indeed makes a mighty roar like the host of the Maruts, adored in fertile lands and in desolate places. He, the seizer, accepted the offerings; he has deservedly become the banner of the sacrifice. And when he joyously proceeds, all gladly follow his path; men follow his path to prosperity.

When the Kistas striving for heaven, and the Bhrigus, paying reverence, have called him, the Bhrigus producing him by effort and worship: Agni is the lord of wealth, the pure one, their supporter. May the wise one accept the desired coverings; may the wise one accept them.

We invoke you, the lord of all these peoples, the common master of the house for all, to enjoy. We call upon you, who is truly carried by hymns, to enjoy. The guest of humankind, in whose presence, like a father's, all these immortals attain strength, and the offerings among the gods attain strength.

You, O Agni, are born with the greatest strength, the mightiest one, for the service of the gods. Your exhilaration is most potent, and your power is most brilliant. Therefore, they serve you, O ageless one, with obedience, like devoted followers.

May your praise go forth to the great Agni, strong in his might, who awakens at dawn, like a bringer of cattle. Let praise go forth to Agni. When the one rich in offerings has loudly praised him in all lands, he moves forward like a singer before the dawns, the energizer, the priest of the dawns.
