इ॒मा रु॒द्राय॑ त॒वसे॑ कप॒र्दिने॑ क्ष॒यद्वी॑राय॒ प्र भ॑रामहे म॒तीः | यथा॒ शमस॑द्द्वि॒पदे॒ चतु॑ष्पदे॒ विश्वं॑ पु॒ष्टं ग्रामे॑ अ॒स्मिन्न॑नातु॒रम् ||
imā́ rudrā́ya taváse kapardíne kṣayádvīrāya prá bharāmahe matī́ḥ yáthā śám ásad dvipáde cátuṣpade víśvam puṣṭáṁ grā́me asmínn anāturám
We bring these thoughts to you, mighty Rudra, with your braided hair, leader of heroes! May these thoughts bring peace to our two-legged and four-legged beings, and may our village be full of healthy abundance.
In this first verse, the speaker addresses the powerful and impressive deity Rudra, who has a distinctive hairstyle (kapardin) and is a leader of heroes. Rudra, please be kind to us and bring us joy! We want to honor you, leader of heroes, with our worship. Just as Manu, our ancestor, gained prosperity through his sacrifices, may we also find happiness under your guidance.

We have spoken our respectful words, seeking your help. May Rudra, with the Maruts, hear our call! May Mitra, Varuna, Aditi, the river, the earth, and the sky also bless us with this.
The speakers declare that they have spoken words of reverence and sought help from Rudra, who is accompanied by the Maruts. They express a hope that he will hear their call. The verse concludes by requesting that other deities—Mitra, Varuna, Aditi, the river, earth, and sky—also approve and grant this prayer.
