Stanza 1.101.1

प्र म॒न्दिने॑ पितु॒मद॑र्चता॒ वचो॒ यः कृ॒ष्णग॑र्भा नि॒रह॑न्नृ॒जिश्व॑ना | अ॒व॒स्यवो॒ वृष॑णं॒ वज्र॑दक्षिणं म॒रुत्व॑न्तं स॒ख्याय॑ हवामहे ||

prá mandíne pitumád arcatā váco yáḥ kr̥ṣṇágarbhā niráhann r̥jíśvanā avasyávo vŕ̥ṣaṇaṁ vájradakṣiṇam marútvantaṁ sakhyā́ya havāmahe

Let's sing praises with offerings to the joyous one! He, with Rjishvan, drove away the dark brood. We call upon him, the strong one, the one whose right hand wields the thunderbolt, accompanied by the Maruts, to be our friend, because we need his help.

Stanza 1.101.2

यो व्यं॑सं जाहृषा॒णेन॑ म॒न्युना॒ यः शम्ब॑रं॒ यो अह॒न्पिप्रु॑मव्र॒तम् | इन्द्रो॒ यः शुष्ण॑म॒शुषं॒ न्यावृ॑णङ्म॒रुत्व॑न्तं स॒ख्याय॑ हवामहे ||

yó vyàṁsaṁ jāhr̥ṣāṇéna manyúnā yáḥ śámbaraṁ yó áhan píprum avratám índro yáḥ śúṣṇam aśúṣaṁ ny ā́vr̥ṇaṅ marútvantaṁ sakhyā́ya havāmahe

He who, with triumphant anger, struck down Vyamsa, who conquered Sambara, and destroyed Pipru the lawbreaker. Indra, who suppressed the insatiable Sushna – him, surrounded by the Maruts, we call upon for friendship.

Stanza 1.101.3

यस्य॒ द्यावा॑पृथि॒वी पौंस्यं॑ म॒हद्यस्य॑ व्र॒ते वरु॑णो॒ यस्य॒ सूर्यः॑ | यस्येन्द्र॑स्य॒ सिन्ध॑वः॒ सश्च॑ति व्र॒तं म॒रुत्व॑न्तं स॒ख्याय॑ हवामहे ||

yásya dyā́vāpr̥thivī́ paúṁsyam mahád yásya vraté váruṇo yásya sū́ryaḥ yásyéndrasya síndhavaḥ sáścati vratám marútvantaṁ sakhyā́ya havāmahe

Whose power is great over heaven and earth, in whose law Varuna and Surya abide. Indra, whose law the rivers follow – him, accompanied by the Maruts, we call upon for friendship.

Stanza 1.101.4

यो अश्वा॑नां॒ यो गवां॒ गोप॑तिर्व॒शी य आ॑रि॒तः कर्म॑णिकर्मणि स्थि॒रः | वी॒ळोश्चि॒दिन्द्रो॒ यो असु॑न्वतो व॒धो म॒रुत्व॑न्तं स॒ख्याय॑ हवामहे ||

yó áśvānāṁ yó gávāṁ gópatir vaśī́ yá āritáḥ kármaṇi-karmaṇi sthiráḥ vīḷóś cid índro yó ásunvato vadhó marútvantaṁ sakhyā́ya havāmahe

He who is the lord and master of horses and cows, the powerful one, steadfast and honored in every deed. Indra, the destroyer of those who don't offer sacrifices – him, accompanied by the Maruts, we call upon for friendship.

Stanza 1.101.5

यो विश्व॑स्य॒ जग॑तः प्राण॒तस्पति॒र्यो ब्र॒ह्मणे॑ प्रथ॒मो गा अवि॑न्दत् | इन्द्रो॒ यो दस्यूँ॒रध॑राँ अ॒वाति॑रन्म॒रुत्व॑न्तं स॒ख्याय॑ हवामहे ||

yó víśvasya jágataḥ prāṇatás pátir yó brahmáṇe prathamó gā́ ávindat índro yó dásyūm̐r ádharām̐ avā́tiran marútvantaṁ sakhyā́ya havāmahe

He who is the lord of all the world that moves and breathes, who was the first to find the cows for the Brahmins. Indra, who cast the Dasyus down below – him, accompanied by the Maruts, we call upon for friendship.

Stanza 1.101.6

यः शूरे॑भि॒र्हव्यो॒ यश्च॑ भी॒रुभि॒र्यो धाव॑द्भिर्हू॒यते॒ यश्च॑ जि॒ग्युभिः॑ | इन्द्रं॒ यं विश्वा॒ भुव॑ना॒भि सं॑द॒धुर्म॒रुत्व॑न्तं स॒ख्याय॑ हवामहे ||

yáḥ śū́rebhir hávyo yáś ca bhīrúbhir yó dhā́vadbhir hūyáte yáś ca jigyúbhiḥ índraṁ yáṁ víśvā bhúvanābhí saṁdadhúr marútvantaṁ sakhyā́ya havāmahe

Whom warriors must invoke, and also the fearful; whom those who flee and those who conquer invoke. Indra, towards whom all beings come together – him, accompanied by the Maruts, we call upon for friendship.

Stanza 1.101.7

रु॒द्राणा॑मेति प्र॒दिशा॑ विचक्ष॒णो रु॒द्रेभि॒र्योषा॑ तनुते पृ॒थु ज्रयः॑ | इन्द्रं॑ मनी॒षा अ॒भ्य॑र्चति श्रु॒तं म॒रुत्व॑न्तं स॒ख्याय॑ हवामहे ||

rudrā́ṇām eti pradíśā vicakṣaṇó rudrébhir yóṣā tanute pr̥thú jráyaḥ índram manīṣā́ abhy àrcati śrutám marútvantaṁ sakhyā́ya havāmahe

He moves with wisdom in the region of the Rudras (Maruts), and with the Rudras, the Goddess (of speech/prayer) expands widely. The hymn extols famous Indra; him, accompanied by the Maruts, we call upon for friendship.

Stanza 1.101.8

यद्वा॑ मरुत्वः पर॒मे स॒धस्थे॒ यद्वा॑व॒मे वृ॒जने॑ मा॒दया॑से | अत॒ आ या॑ह्यध्व॒रं नो॒ अच्छा॑ त्वा॒या ह॒विश्च॑कृमा सत्यराधः ||

yád vā marutvaḥ paramé sadhásthe yád vāvamé vr̥jáne mādáyāse áta ā́ yāhy adhvaráṁ no áchā tvāyā́ havíś cakr̥mā satyarādhaḥ

O Indra with the Maruts, whether you rejoice in the highest assembly or in the lower realm, come from there to our sacrifice! Because we love you, O truthful giver, we have prepared offerings.

Stanza 1.101.9

त्वा॒येन्द्र॒ सोमं॑ सुषुमा सुदक्ष त्वा॒या ह॒विश्च॑कृमा ब्रह्मवाहः | अधा॑ नियुत्वः॒ सग॑णो म॒रुद्भि॑र॒स्मिन्य॒ज्ञे ब॒र्हिषि॑ मादयस्व ||

tvāyéndra sómaṁ suṣumā sudakṣa tvāyā́ havíś cakr̥mā brahmavāhaḥ ádhā niyutvaḥ ságaṇo marúdbhir asmín yajñé barhíṣi mādayasva

O Indra, strong one, we have prepared Soma for you! O bearer of prayers, we have made offerings for you! Now, O one with teams, accompanied by the Maruts, delight yourself with our offerings on the sacred grass in this sacrifice.

Stanza 1.101.10

मा॒दय॑स्व॒ हरि॑भि॒र्ये त॑ इन्द्र॒ वि ष्य॑स्व॒ शिप्रे॒ वि सृ॑जस्व॒ धेने॑ | आ त्वा॑ सुशिप्र॒ हर॑यो वहन्तू॒शन्ह॒व्यानि॒ प्रति॑ नो जुषस्व ||

mādáyasva háribhir yé ta indra ví ṣyasva śípre ví sr̥jasva dhéne ā́ tvā suśipra hárayo vahantūśán havyā́ni práti no juṣasva

Delight yourself with your bay horses, O Indra! Open your jaws, and let your lips be open. May your horses, O beautiful-cheeked one, carry you! Graciously accept our offerings.

Stanza 1.101.11

म॒रुत्स्तो॑त्रस्य वृ॒जन॑स्य गो॒पा व॒यमिन्द्रे॑ण सनुयाम॒ वाज॑म् | तन्नो॑ मि॒त्रो वरु॑णो मामहन्ता॒मदि॑तिः॒ सिन्धुः॑ पृथि॒वी उ॒त द्यौः ||

marútstotrasya vr̥jánasya gopā́ vayám índreṇa sanuyāma vā́jam tán no mitró váruṇo māmahantām áditiḥ síndhuḥ pr̥thivī́ utá dyaúḥ

We are the guardians of the Marut-praise, O Indra; may we obtain wealth with you. May Mitra, Varuna, Aditi, the river, Earth, and Sky grant us this.
